The year is wrong. Channel 4's '100 Greatest War Films' poll was reported in May 2005, not 2008.

The claim gets the year of the Channel 4 poll wrong.
Two independent sources place Channel 4's "100 Greatest War Films" in 2005:
- The Irish Examiner reported on May 16, 2005 that Saving Private Ryan had been named Britain's favourite war film after topping a poll commissioned by Channel 4.
- Plex's listing for The 100 Greatest War Films identifies it as a 2005 program and gives a May 14, 2005 release date.
An Ofcom bulletin from June 6, 2005 also lists "100 Greatest War Films" among Channel 4 broadcasts from that period, which is incompatible with the article's claim that this was a 2008 poll.
So the problem is not that Saving Private Ryan won — it did — but that the post assigns the poll to the wrong year.
