This phrase misstates the recall category.

The high-profile GM-wide safety recalls that included the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky were ignition-related recalls:

• NHTSA recall bulletin 14V047 says GM was recalling these vehicles because of a defective Ignition & Start Switch. The bulletin explains that if the switch moves out of the RUN position, electrical power can be lost and the air bags may not deploy in a crash.
• A U.S. Department of Transportation testimony on the GM ignition-switch recall likewise says the recall covered vehicles including the 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice and 2007 Saturn Sky and explicitly identifies it as an ignition switch recall.

So the safety issue is real, but calling it an “airbag sensor recall” is inaccurate: the recalled parts were ignition switches / ignition cylinders, with airbag non-deployment being one of the risks caused by that defect.
