This is no longer the only such instance in English football. Newcastle United also had eight different scorers in an English top-flight match in September 2023.

Liverpool did have eight different goalscorers in the 9–0 win over Crystal Palace in 1989. But it is not the only time this has happened in English football.
Liverpool's own official retrospective on that match says there were "eight different goalscorers" in the 1989 game. Newcastle United's official match report for their 8–0 win over Sheffield United on 24 September 2023 says "Eight different players netted for the Magpies". Because Newcastle also did this in an English league match, the article's claim that Liverpool's 1989 game was the only time this has happened in English football is incorrect.
A Premier League report on the 2023 match likewise described Newcastle as having eight different goalscorers in that game, confirming a second English top-flight example.
