The epicenters of both earthquakes were in San Felipe, Yaracuy.
Official earthquake locations do not place both epicenters in San Felipe. USGS places the two events southeast of Yumare, and INGV described the first as 28 km from San Felipe rather than in it.

- The USGS reviewed location for the foreshock is "M 7.2 - 23 km SE of Yumare, Venezuela" at 10.436, -68.5277.
- The USGS reviewed location for the mainshock is "M 7.5 - 28 km SE of Yumare, Venezuela" at 10.4351, -68.4716.
- INGV's event note likewise described the first event as "28 km a nord-ovest di San Felipe" (28 km northwest of San Felipe), which also means it was not in San Felipe.
Because at least one of the two quakes was explicitly located outside San Felipe by primary seismological sources, the statement that both epicenters were in San Felipe is incorrect.
