Contemporary reporting shows the extradition decision was not made on July 14, 1986.

• El País reported on March 26, 1986 that Spain's Audiencia Nacional had already decided to give Colombia preference over the United States for Jorge Luis Ochoa's extradition.
• UPI then reported that Ochoa was actually extradited on July 13, 1986. That same report says the case's remaining jurisdictional dispute was resolved on July 7, after which he was flown to Colombia on Sunday, July 13.

So July 14 was not the date a Spanish court decided to extradite him to Colombia. By then, the decisive court ruling had been made months earlier, and Ochoa had already been sent to Colombia the day before.

This description misidentifies FEDEGÁN.

FEDEGÁN's own official "Quiénes somos" page states that it is the "Federación Colombiana de Ganaderos" and describes it as "gremio cúpula de la ganadería colombiana"—that is, the top national guild/body for Colombian cattle ranching. That makes it a national Colombian federation, not a federation limited to the department of Antioquia.

So the article's label "the Antioquia livestock federation" is factually incorrect.

This overstates Jorge Ochoa's Forbes-estimated fortune.

Forbes' own retrospective on its billionaire coverage says that in 1987 the magazine included "the Ochoa brothers"—Jorge Luis, Fabio and Juan David—on its first World's Billionaires List, and that "the brothers shared more than $2 billion." That is a collective estimate for the brothers, not an estimate of nearly $3 billion for Jorge Ochoa alone.

A contemporaneous UPI report on the 1992 Forbes list likewise summarized Forbes' assessment by saying the Ochoa brothers were believed to have cleared more than $2 billion from the cocaine business.

So the article's wording incorrectly attributes a much larger, individual net-worth estimate to Jorge Ochoa than Forbes actually reported.
