Official University of Hawaiʻi pages contradict this sentence on two points:

1. Her 1967 bachelor’s degree was in Mathematics, not Anthropology.
2. Her anthropology master’s degree was awarded in 1983, not 1974.

The University of Hawaiʻi Department of Mathematics states that Dunham "received a BA in Mathematics from UH-Manoa in 1967, then went on to earn an MA (1983) and PhD (1992) in Anthropology from UH." A separate University of Hawaiʻi System news page honoring distinguished alumni gives the same degree years: BA '67, MA '83, PhD '92.

So the article’s statement that she earned a BA and MA in anthropology, with the MA in 1974, is inconsistent with the university’s own records.

Two parts of this statement are contradicted by available records:

1. It was not Indonesia’s highest civilian award. The Indonesian State Secretariat’s official page on national honors lists the order of civilian stars as Bintang Republik Indonesia, then Bintang Mahaputera, then Bintang Jasa. That means Bintang Jasa is not the country’s top civilian decoration.

2. The date is not December 2010. The Barack Obama Presidential Library artifact record for Dunham’s Bintang Jasa Utama Certificate gives the object date as 03/18/2010 and says President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono awarded the order to Stanley Ann Dunham on March 18, 2010.

So the sentence overstates the award’s rank and gives the wrong month for the award.
