In September 2024, Chatbot Arena moved to its own dedicated domain name, lmarena.ai (or LMArena).
This gets the September 2024 milestone wrong. Arena’s own 2023 launch post already shows Chatbot Arena running at lmarena.ai; September 2024 was when it became an independent platform after graduating from LMSys.
Full reasoning
Arena’s own launch post from May 4, 2023 says Chatbot Arena was already hosted at https://lmarena.ai and invites users to visit that same URL. That directly contradicts the claim that the move to the lmarena.ai domain happened only in September 2024.
A later official Arena post explains what actually happened in September 2024: LMArena “graduated from LMSys in September 2024 to establish LMArena as an independent platform.” In other words, September 2024 was an organizational/platform-independence milestone, not the first move to the lmarena.ai domain.
So the article conflates two different events:
- By May 2023: Chatbot Arena was already live at
lmarena.ai. - In September 2024: it became an independent platform after graduating from LMSys.
That makes the sentence as written factually incorrect.
