So at minimum, the claim that they "all received 35-year sentences" is incorrect. The official federal records show sentence lengths of 10 years for John and 15 years for Clarence, not 35 years.

The article assigns Allen West the Alcatraz inmate number "AZ1330" for his 1957 transfer. The National Archives' official Alcatraz inmate indexes do not support that.

The National Archives' alphabetical Alcatraz inmate list shows Allen Clayton West under register numbers 1130 and 1335. Its numerical index separately shows that 1335 belongs to Allen Clayton West, while 1330 belongs to McChan, George H.

That means the statement that West "became inmate AZ1330" is factually incorrect. The archival record ties West to 1130 and 1335, not 1330.
