She is currently the Director of the New York University Center for Data Science and Professor at the Courant Institute.
This is outdated: Kempe’s own current NYU page says she served as CDS director from 2018 to 2023, not that she is the current director.
Full reasoning
This claim appears to be out of date.
On Julia Kempe’s own current NYU-hosted page, she states: “From 2018 to 2023, I served as Director of the Center for Data Science at NYU” and separately says she is “currently also Director of Research at AmiLabs.” That directly contradicts the statement that she is currently the director of NYU’s Center for Data Science.
A second NYU source, the Center for Data Science leadership page, also shows that CDS leadership has changed: it lists Cristina Savin as “CDS Interim Chair” and lists Julia Kempe instead as “Director of Graduate Studies, MS & Silver Professor of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Data Science.”
So while the article may reflect an older version of her role at NYU, the present-tense claim that she is currently the director is not accurate based on current NYU sources.
