Official Karnataka government sources say the linguistic reorganization of 1 November 1956 created the New State of Mysore, not a state then officially called Karnataka. The Karnataka Legislature's history page states that the new Mysore State came into being on that date and that the state was renamed as Karnataka in 1973. The Karnataka High Court history page says the territories were merged to form Mysore State, which was renamed Karnataka on 1 November 1973. So naming 'Karnataka' as one of the states formed in 1956 is historically inaccurate.

The denomination named The United Methodist Church was created later, on April 23, 1968, by the union of The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Church. UMC's own history page states that this is when the United Methodist Church was born. Separately, UMC's FAQ on women's ordination says the pivotal May 4, 1956 General Conference vote for full clergy rights for women happened in the Methodist tradition—that is, before the UMC itself existed. So the event described here is real, but attributing it in 1956 to the United Methodist Church is historically incorrect; it should refer to The Methodist Church instead.

IBM's history of Reynold B. Johnson says IBM sent Johnson to San Jose in 1952 to lead experiments in random-access storage, and that after four years the team revealed RAMAC, the first computer to use a random-access disk drive. The Computer History Museum likewise says Johnson assembled the team in 1954 and that IBM shipped the first commercial hard disk drive, the Model 350 RAMAC, in June 1956. That means September 13, 1956 was part of the product's rollout era, not the date on which the hard disk drive was suddenly 'invented.' The claim conflates invention/development with later public introduction or shipment.

The death year in this entry is contradicted by later official court records. Sri Lanka's Supreme Court website hosts judgments published well after 2019 that list Prasanna Jayawardena, PC, J. as a judge. For example, the court's judgment page for a document published about seven months ago includes his name repeatedly, showing he was alive and serving long after 2019. Another Supreme Court document published about 1.5 years ago lists him on the bench as well. That makes the parenthetical "(d. 2019)" factually wrong.

U.S. State Department historical documents on the Hungarian Revolution say the Soviet military incursion into Hungary took place at 4:30 a.m. on October 24, 1956. Meanwhile, Hungary's official memorial-day history states that on 4 November Russian tanks advanced on Budapest and the revolution was crushed by about 10 November. So an entry saying Soviet troops 'invade Hungary' on October 26 is incorrect: the first intervention had already begun two days earlier, and the decisive second invasion came later on November 4.
