Finally, the monument was reerected on 11 September 2023, but this time in front of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service headquarters outside Moscow.
In September 2023, authorities unveiled a new replica of the Dzerzhinsky monument at SVR headquarters in Moscow. The original monument was not re-erected there, and the site is in Moscow’s Yasenevo district, not outside Moscow.
Full reasoning
This sentence is inaccurate in two ways.
First, the 2023 unveiling was not the original monument being re-erected. Meduza reported that the statue installed at SVR headquarters was a smaller copy of the monument that had stood on Lubyanka Square, and that the original monument removed in 1991 remains in Moscow’s Muzeon park.
Second, the new statue was not outside Moscow. TASS reported that the unveiling took place on the premises of the SVR headquarters in the Yasenevo District in southern Moscow.
So the article conflates a newly installed replica with the original monument and misstates the location as outside Moscow.
