whose corporate ventures were facing a case, United States v. Bankman-Fried,
United States v. Bankman-Fried was a criminal case against Samuel Bankman-Fried himself, not a case against his “corporate ventures.” DOJ materials identify the defendant as Samuel Bankman-Fried and say the indictment was unsealed on December 13, 2022.
Full reasoning
This phrase misdescribes the case. United States v. Samuel Bankman-Fried was a criminal prosecution of Samuel Bankman-Fried personally. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York says: “On December 13, 2022, an eight-count indictment was unsealed charging Samuel Bankman-Fried…” and repeatedly refers to “The defendant Samuel Bankman-Fried.” The Department of Justice’s Criminal Division likewise titles the matter “United States v. Samuel Bankman-Fried.”
So the case was not a lawsuit or prosecution against Bankman-Fried’s “corporate ventures”; it was a criminal case against Bankman-Fried himself. The wording is therefore factually inaccurate.

which he left after one year.
MacAskill did not leave his Oxford appointment after one year. His own website says he was an Associate Professor at Oxford from 2015 to 2024, and his CV lists the Lincoln College/Oxford post as beginning in August 2015.
Full reasoning
This sentence says that the Oxford/Lincoln appointment was left "after one year," but MacAskill’s own materials indicate that his Oxford role lasted far longer.
On his current homepage, MacAskill writes: “Before Forethought, I was an Associate Professor at Oxford University (2015-2024).” His CV likewise lists “Aug 2015-present Associate Professor & Tutorial Fellow, Lincoln College, University of Oxford” (the CV appears not to have been updated after he later left Oxford, but it still clearly contradicts the idea that he left after only one year).
So the claim that he left that appointment after one year is inconsistent with his own published biography and CV.
