175,843 (4.5%)
The 175,843 figure is from Sierra Leone’s 2015 census, but the census gives Kissi as 2.5% of the population, not 4.5%.
Full reasoning
Statistics Sierra Leone’s 2015 Population and Housing Census reports the Kissi population as 175,843 and their share of the national population as 2.5%. That means the article’s number is paired with the wrong percentage. This is not a small rounding issue: 4.5% would imply a much larger population than 175,843 in a country of about 7.1 million people.
