Murphy was the second-youngest player to win the World Championship
Murphy is no longer the second-youngest world champion. Wu Yize's 2026 title made Wu the second-youngest winner, with Murphy older than Wu when he won in 2005.
Full reasoning
This all-time age record has been overtaken. After winning the 2026 World Snooker Championship, Wu Yize was described by BBC Sport and Sky Sports as the second-youngest world champion in history, behind Stephen Hendry. Sky Sports also noted that Murphy was 22 and three months older than Wu when Murphy won in 2005.
So Murphy may once have held that distinction, but the statement is no longer correct as written in a current biography. Today, Wu Yize is the second-youngest winner and Murphy has dropped behind him.
