George Bush went to #Najd and #Hijaz, in Saudi Arabia
Official U.S. records do not show George W. Bush visiting the Hijaz region. His 2008 Saudi trips were recorded only in Riyadh and Al-Janadriyah, both in the Riyadh/Najd area.
Full reasoning
The available official travel records for George W. Bush's visits to Saudi Arabia do not place him in the Hijaz region.
- The U.S. State Department's presidential travel database lists Bush's Saudi trips as:
- January 14–16, 2008: "Riyadh, Al-Janadriyah"
- May 16–17, 2008: "Riyadh, Al-Janadriyah"
There is no Hijaz city listed (such as Mecca, Medina, or Jeddah).
- The White House's own pre-trip briefing for the January 2008 visit likewise said: "On Tuesday, January 15th, President Bush will be in Riyadh for meetings. On Wednesday, January 16th, President Bush will travel to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt."
- Riyadh is in central Saudi Arabia on the Najd plateau, not in Hijaz. The Riyadh Municipality's history page explicitly says Riyadh grew "over the Najd plateau."
So the documentary record supports a visit to Riyadh/Al-Janadriyah (Najd), but not to Hijaz. That makes the claim that Bush "went to #Najd and #Hijaz" inaccurate.
