The 7th New York Militia was not dissolved after three months. In 1861 it served only 30 days before being mustered out, and the regiment remained in existence and returned to federal service again in 1862 and 1863.

The official history page from the New York State Military Museum says the 7th Regiment left New York on April 19, 1861, was "mustered in the service of the United States for thirty days, April 26, 1861", and was "mustered out at New York city, June 3, 1861." It also explicitly says "This regiment ... is still in existence" and records later federal service in 1862 and 1863.
So the regiment was not dissolved after three months. It was mustered out after about 30 days in 1861, and the regiment itself continued to exist.
