Claim
A month later, EPFL released FlyGym, a free, physics-simulated fruit fly body you could drive with code.
Correction

FlyGym was already publicly released before November 2024. EPFL’s GitHub shows FlyGym v1.0.0 was released on June 20, 2024, and v1.1.0 on October 1, 2024.

Full reasoning

This sentence gets the timing wrong.

EPFL’s own FlyGym repository shows that FlyGym v1.0.0 (“First stable release”) was released on June 20, 2024, not a month after the October 2024 FlyWire papers. The same repository also shows FlyGym v1.1.0 was released on October 1, 2024, which means FlyGym was already available by the time the October 2024 fly-brain results were published.

So while FlyGym is real, the claim that EPFL released it “a month later” is contradicted by EPFL/GitHub’s own release history.

Claim
But it was the release of MaleCNS v1.0 in September 2026, combined with AI coding assistants, that put this within anyone’s reach.
Correction

MaleCNS v1.0 was not released in September 2026. The project’s official release notes date v1.0 to June 8, 2026; September 3, 2026 was the paper’s publication date.

Full reasoning

The date here is incorrect.

The official MaleCNS project page lists two separate milestones:

  • “2026-06-08 - MaleCNS v1.0 released!”
  • “2026-09-03 - MaleCNS paper published!”

Its release-notes page likewise says “v1.0 (June 8, 2026)”. So September 2026 corresponds to the paper’s publication, not the release of MaleCNS v1.0 itself.
