ChatGPT Work cannot simply inspect “everything” on your computer or all your mail/messages just from a prompt. OpenAI says it only gets access to specific local folders or explicitly connected accounts, and cloud browsing is separate from your own device/browser state.

Full reasoning

OpenAI’s own documentation contradicts the idea that ChatGPT can broadly “check everything” you do on your computer.

  • Local computer access is limited and explicit. OpenAI says Work can use local files only in the desktop app, and only after you open a local folder or project and grant access only to the files the task needs. It also says Work on web and mobile cannot directly access files on your computer.
  • Cloud/browser access is not your whole device. OpenAI says ChatGPT’s cloud browser is separate from the browser on your device and does not use your personal browser’s open tabs, browsing history, saved passwords, cookies, extensions, or existing sign-ins.
  • Email, docs, sheets, messages, etc. require explicit app connections and permissions. OpenAI says some apps require you to connect an account and review the requested permissions before approving the connection. It also states that app permissions do not grant an app new access; available data depends on the app, the access granted during connection, and workspace controls.

So pasting this prompt does not let ChatGPT automatically inspect all of your computer activity, emails, documents, meetings, and messages. It can only act within the specific folders, websites, and connected accounts you explicitly authorize.
