none of Nikole Hannah-Jones' critics try to answer to the basic question she wrestled with
That "none" claim is too strong. Before this post was published, multiple critics explicitly answered Hannah-Jones’s question by arguing that parents should prioritize their own children’s education rather than sacrifice it for a broader social goal.
Full reasoning
This post was published on September 21, 2026 at 23:18 UTC. Before that time, there were already critics directly addressing the question of whether Hannah-Jones should have sent her daughter to a better school.
Two examples:
-
Fox News, published September 20, 2026 at 2:10 p.m. EDT: school-choice critic/advocate Corey DeAngelis responded to Hannah-Jones’s essay by saying "Parents should put their children first" and that they should not sacrifice them to a failing school system. That is plainly an answer to the question of why her daughter should get a better school.
-
Marginal Revolution, published September 21, 2026 at 7:17 a.m.: Alex Tabarrok wrote that Hannah-Jones was "sacrificing her child" and concluded that "your child should not be sacrificed to the collective good." Again, that is a direct answer to the same basic question.
Because at least some critics had already offered a clear answer before this X post appeared, the absolute claim that none of her critics did so is incorrect.
