The article text calls George Mason University "a conservative law school," but George Mason University is not itself a law school. George Mason’s official "About" page identifies it as "a public, comprehensive, research university". This sentence gets the timeline wrong. The appeal of Judge Cannon’s dismissal was dropped on November 25–26, 2024, after Donald Trump won reelection but before he took office on January 20, 2025.

A Reuters report from November 26, 2024 says the appeal was dismissed after prosecutors stopped pursuing it "against the president-elect" and notes Trump was still preparing to return to the White House on January 20. ABC News likewise states that in December 2024 Smith dropped the prosecution of Trump after Trump was reelected president, due to DOJ policy on sitting presidents. So the article should not say this happened after Trump became president; it happened while he was still president-elect.

This sentence overstates what Judge Cannon did. Contemporary coverage says LafargeHolcim and the plaintiffs themselves reached a settlement in principle on May 20, 2021. Judge Cannon then ordered the parties to file a notice of settlement by June 28; if they did not, the company would need to respond to the complaint. In other words, she did not order the company to settle—she managed the docket after the parties had already reached an agreement.

That distinction matters because a court can require parties to report or formalize a settlement, but that is different from ordering them to enter one.

This sentence misnames the committee. Contemporary coverage of Cannon’s nomination describes her testifying before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. The Senate’s own committees page likewise lists Judiciary as a standing Senate committee. There is no official committee called the "United States Judiciary Committee."

So while the article is referring to Cannon’s July 29, 2020 confirmation hearing, the committee name in the sentence is factually incorrect.

The article conflates two separate events. The Southern District of Texas announced that Tiffani Gish had already pleaded guilty and that sentencing was set for February. AP then reported that on February 9, 2024, she was sentenced to about three years in prison. So February 9 was the sentencing date, not the plea date.
