• Jeff Dean’s Google Research profile says: “I received a B.S. in computer science and economics (summa cum laude) from the University of Minnesota in 1990.”
• A University of Minnesota page about Dean likewise says: “Jeff received ... a B.S. in Computer Science & Economics from the University of Minnesota, summa cum laude.”

Those primary sources contradict the article’s statement that his 1990 bachelor’s degree was in Computer Science and Engineering.

Primary sources describe Dean’s undergraduate work differently from this article.

• Jeff Dean’s official Google Research biography says he graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1990 “doing honors theses on parallel training of neural networks and the economic impact of HIV/AIDS.”
• The University of Minnesota quotes Dean directly: “I did my undergraduate honors thesis on parallel training of neural nets with him [Vipin Kumar] as my advisor.”

So the article’s wording is inaccurate in two ways: it describes the thesis topic as “neural networks in C programming” rather than parallel training of neural networks, and it presents this as a single thesis when Dean’s official biography says he completed honors theses.
