The post frames this as what the Islamic Republic itself said Erfan Esfandiari's offense was. But multiple reports describing the judiciary's announcement say the authorities alleged a much broader and far more violent set of acts.

• HRANA, summarizing the Iranian Judiciary's Media Center, says the judiciary claimed that during the January 8, 2026 protests in Alikhani Square, four law-enforcement officers were killed, and that protesters attacked police using firearms, bladed weapons, and incendiary materials.
• Iran International, explicitly quoting the judiciary-linked report by Mizan, says the state media outlet described Esfandiari and the others as being accused of burning buildings, destroying police facilities, blocking streets, and being equipped with firearms, knives, machetes, and Molotov cocktails; it also says the report linked the case to the deaths of four officers.
• An AFP report says the judiciary stated Esfandiari and his co-defendant "tied police officers to a traffic sign with ropes, injured them with stones, doused them with gasoline and set them on fire."

That does not establish that the regime's allegations were true or fairly proven. But it does establish that the post is inaccurate in saying that, according to the Islamic Republic, his "crime" was simply "opening a door." The government's stated accusation was much more serious than that.
