His victims were decapitated, and their severed heads kept as mementos.
This overstates Clark's modus operandi: court records show only one of the six murder victims he was convicted of killing, Exxie Wilson, was decapitated.
Full reasoning
The official California Supreme Court opinion in People v. Clark contradicts this blanket statement.
In that opinion, the court describes Clark's six murder convictions and the causes of death of the victims:
- Karen Jones: died from a gunshot wound to the head.
- Exxie Wilson: her body was decapitated, but the coroner found her cause of death was a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
- Marnette Comer: suffered three gunshot wounds to the chest area.
- Jane Doe 18: died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
- Gina Marano and Cynthia Chandler: were killed by gunshots.
The same opinion also notes Clark was convicted of one count of mutilation of human remains, tied to one murder victim, which matches the Exxie Wilson evidence rather than all of his victims. So the article's wording is inaccurate because it implies Clark's victims generally were decapitated and their heads kept, when the court record shows that was not true for most of the victims in the case.
It's true that decapitation was part of the case history, but the broad statement as written is too sweeping.

A jury found him guilty of six counts of first degree murder ... one count of mutilation of human remains, as to one of the murder victims ... Karen Jones's body was discovered ... The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head ... Exxie Wilson ... The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the back of the head ... Comer had suffered three gunshot wounds to the chest area ... Jane Doe 18 ... The cause of death was a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
On June 24, 1980, Clark killed two sex workers, 24-year-old Karen Lee Jones, and 20-year-old Exxie LaFaye Wilson.
The date is off by one day. The California Supreme Court's summary of the case places both killings on June 23, 1980, not June 24.
Full reasoning
The official California Supreme Court opinion in People v. Clark dates both murders to June 23, 1980.
It states that:
- Between 2:00 and 2:30 a.m. on June 23, 1980, Officer Guzzetta encountered Karen Jones.
- At 3:15 a.m., Karen Jones's body was discovered.
- At 7:15 a.m. that same morning, Exxie Wilson's decapitated body was discovered.
- The coroner determined that Wilson, like Jones, had died sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. on June 23, 1980.
So while some later events in that sequence happened on June 27 (when Wilson's head was found), the killings of Jones and Wilson themselves were on June 23, not June 24.

to be released on July 14 .
This is outdated. As of July 28, 2026, Epic Pictures lists *Sunset Strip Killers* as already available on demand, and its release notices gave July 14, 2026 as the streaming release date.
Full reasoning
This claim is no longer accurate.
Epic Pictures' official film page for Sunset Strip Killers now says the movie is "Available on Demand". Epic's homepage likewise lists "Sunset Strip Killers AVAILABLE ON DEMAND EVERYWHERE." A June 15, 2026 release announcement from Rue Morgue—reporting Epic's rollout—said the film would open theatrically on July 10, 2026 and arrive on streaming on July 14, 2026.
So the article's wording, "to be released on July 14", is stale: by July 28, 2026, that release date had already passed and the film was already out.
