This sentence gets the mechanism wrong.

Official FIFA reporting from February 16, 2026 says Infantino received his Lebanese passport after being granted citizenship by President Joseph Aoun the previous November. AP likewise reported that he received the passport months after the president granted him citizenship, and noted that Lebanese women normally cannot pass citizenship to their foreign husbands.

That matters because the post says he acquired Lebanese citizenship through his marriage. But the Lebanese consulate’s civil-status guidance states that marriage-based acquisition applies to “a foreign woman who is married to a Lebanese” and that, under Lebanese law, a foreign woman married to a Lebanese citizen may apply after one year. It does not describe an equivalent automatic marriage route for a foreign husband of a Lebanese woman.

So Infantino’s Lebanese citizenship was not acquired via the ordinary marriage-based route described here; it was granted by presidential exception/decree.

The date attached to his citizenship is wrong.

FIFA’s own report on Infantino’s February 16, 2026 visit to Lebanon says he received a Lebanese passport after being granted citizenship by President Aoun last November. AP reported the same day that he received the passport months after the president had granted him citizenship.

So February 16, 2026 was the date he received his passport, not the date he first became a Lebanese citizen. The grant of citizenship had already occurred in November 2025.

This claim collapses two different stages of the process into one.

On October 31, 2023, FIFA published a media release saying it had received a declaration of interest from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation for the 2034 World Cup. The same release explicitly said that this was only a first step and that the hosts would be appointed later by FIFA Congresses after full bidding and evaluation.

FIFA then officially announced the appointment much later, on December 11, 2024, when the Extraordinary FIFA Congress selected Saudi Arabia to stage the 2034 tournament.

So October 31, 2023 was not the date Infantino announced Saudi Arabia as the host; it was the date FIFA acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s interest in bidding.
