This date is off by about a year. Authoritative biographical references place Friedrich Fromm’s service as Commander-in-Chief of the Replacement Army (Ersatzheer) in 1939–1944, not beginning in 1938.

• Deutsche Biographie lists Fromm’s career entry as “1939–1944 – Berlin – Chef der Heeresrüstung und Befehlshaber des Ersatzheeres” (“Chief of Army Armament and Commander of the Replacement Army”).
• The University of Potsdam likewise describes him as “Commander-in-Chief of the Replacement Army from 1939-1944.”

So while Fromm was already a senior officer in Berlin before the war, the article’s claim that he had been chief of the Reserve/Replacement Army since 1938 is contradicted by these sources.
