before she suffered horrific health problems
The timeline is backwards: reporting based on police records and the victim’s account says her serious symptoms began long before the hidden-camera footage captured the poisoning.
Full reasoning
Multiple credible reports show Rong Yuan was already seriously ill before the camera caught David Xu tampering with her water bottle in February and March 2019.
- CBS San Francisco, citing Berkeley police Sgt. Jennifer Wilson’s probable-cause statement, reported that Xu allegedly added a harmful substance to Yuan’s food and water "on multiple occasions for more than a year" and that Yuan experienced "immediate and significant health problems" after consuming them.
- The San Francisco Standard reported that Yuan’s symptoms began in 2017, escalated over nearly two years, and that she bought and hid a spy camera only after repeated vomiting, ER visits, and other unexplained illness. The same report says the hidden-camera footage was recorded on Feb. 11, 2019 and March 4, 2019.
So the evidence indicates the video did not come before her health problems. Rather, her health problems came first, and the video was obtained later as she tried to figure out why she was getting sick.
