Claim
was a runner up for the National Book Awards
Correction
The book was a National Book Award finalist, not a runner-up. The National Book Foundation’s official record lists *Always Coming Home* as a 1985 Fiction finalist.
Full reasoning
The article says Always Coming Home “was a runner up for the National Book Awards.” The National Book Foundation’s official archive for the book contradicts that wording: it lists Always Coming Home as a “Finalist, National Book Awards 1985 for Fiction.”
That matters because “runner-up” is not the designation used in the Foundation’s official record for this book. The documented status is finalist.
