the part in Book 3 where Hiawatha first meets his father Mudjekeewis
This scene is not in Book III. In Longfellow’s poem, Hiawatha’s meeting with Mudjekeewis appears in Book IV, "Hiawatha and Mudjekeewis."
Full reasoning
In The Song of Hiawatha, Book III is titled "Hiawatha's Childhood" and covers Hiawatha's birth and youth. The father-son meeting quoted here appears in Book IV, titled "Hiawatha and Mudjekeewis." That chapter contains the exact lines quoted in the post, including "Filled with joy was Mudjekeewis / When he looked on Hiawatha". So the passage is correctly quoted, but its location is misidentified by one book/chapter.
