Milley was not a Naval War College student from 1980 to 1984; official Army records place him in operational assignments then, and at the Naval War College only in 1999–2000.

The dates in this table entry do not match the Army's official chronology.
The U.S. Army Center of Military History records that after commissioning in 1980, Milley served as a platoon leader in the 82d Airborne Division from February 1981 to June 1982 and then with the 5th Special Forces Group from June 1982 to October 1984. The same official chronology says he attended the Naval War College from August 1999 to June 2000, nearly two decades later.
An Army biography published when he became 10th Mountain Division commander says the same thing in narrative form: his initial assignment was with the 82d Airborne Division and later the 5th Special Forces Group, and only "following the War College" did he move on to later staff assignments.
So the table entry placing him as a "Student, United States Naval War College" in 1980–1984 is incorrect.
