This sentence describes two bachelor's degrees, but Karpathy’s official biography says something different: “2005 - 2009 BSc at the University of Toronto with a double major in computer science and physics and a minor in math.” That is one Bachelor of Science degree with two majors, not separate bachelor’s degrees.

The University of Toronto’s Arts & Science calendar also explains that majors are programs used to complete a degree requirement: “All degrees awarded by the Faculty of Arts & Science require and are defined by the program(s) - Specialist, Major, Minor - a student completes as a degree requirement.” In other words, a double major is part of a single degree structure, not evidence of two distinct bachelor’s degrees.

So the wording should refer to a BSc with a double major, not plural “bachelor’s degrees.”
