Claim
The Cockroach Janta Party's official X account was withheld in India on 21 June 2026 when the account had around 90,000 followers.
Correction
The X account was withheld on May 21, 2026, not June 21. Contemporary reporting placed the block on May 21, just days after the account launched.
Full reasoning
This date is contradicted by contemporaneous coverage of the blocking:
- The Indian Express reported on May 22, 2026 that the X handle "was withheld Thursday". Since that story was published on May 22, the Thursday in question was May 21, 2026, not June 21.
- A Reuters report published on July 7, 2026 said the account had been offline for more than a month by the time the Delhi High Court ordered it unblocked. If the account had only been withheld on June 21, it would have been offline for about 16 days, not more than a month.
The article's June 21 date is therefore incorrect.
