Purism’s June 30, 2023 launch post says “The Liberty Phone is the upgraded version of our popular Librem 5 USA phone” and specifies that the Liberty Phone adds 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Purism also still maintains a separate Librem 5 USA product page with different listed specs (3GB RAM, 32GB eMMC), showing that Librem 5 USA remains a distinct product line rather than just an old marketing name for the Liberty Phone. Because the company itself treats them as separate products, saying the Liberty Phone was “previously marketed as Librem 5 USA” is inaccurate.

Purism’s current products page lists the Liberty Phone as a separate hardware product, and Purism’s launch post explicitly says “The Liberty Phone is the upgraded version of our popular Librem 5 USA phone.” That shows Purism no longer uses Librem as the brand name for all of its computer hardware products. The statement may once have been true historically, but it is inaccurate as written on the current page because Purism’s product lineup now includes non-Librem-branded hardware.

Purism’s June 18, 2015 press release says “The first Librem 15 unit ... was shipped to early backers on June 5, 2015” and that “The Librem 15 rev2 will begin shipping in July 2015.” Crowd Supply’s October 20, 2015 update likewise says “We began shipping Librem 13 units on Thursday, October 15th, 2015.” Those primary sources show production and shipment activity was underway months before the end of 2015, so saying production only began at the end of 2015 is incorrect.
