City of Los Angeles records for this exact area identify the roadway as Bates Avenue.
- A City Council proceeding for Council District 4 refers to the "Bates Avenue and Sunset Drive Street Lighting District."
- A later City referral likewise refers to the "Sunset Boulevard and Bates Avenue Street Lighting Maintenance Assessment District."
Those official records contradict the post's wording "Bates St." The crosswalk location is therefore misnamed in the post: it is on Bates Avenue.
