Contemporary trade sources credit "In America" to The Charlie Daniels Band. A Billboard chart listing for the single shows "IN AMERICA — The Charlie Daniels Band" on Epic 9-50888, and a Cash Box ad likewise calls it "The Charlie Daniels Band's smash single". The official Charlie Daniels Band store also describes "In America" as a top-ten hit for the band. So labeling the single as being by Charlie Daniels is inaccurate; the release was credited to the band.

This overstates how bad unemployment was in the late 1970s/around 1980. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports annual average unemployment rates of 5.8% in 1979 and 7.1% in 1980—well below double digits. BLS also shows 9.7% in 1982, which means even the 1982 annual average had not yet reached 10%. So the phrase "double-digit ... unemployment" is inaccurate in this context.
