their Navier-Stokes announcements
This misstates Buckmaster and Alpöge’s result. Their announcement was about finite-time blowup for the 3D Euler equations with smooth forcing, not a Navier–Stokes result.
Full reasoning
The post groups OpenAI and Buckmaster/Alpöge together as if both made Navier–Stokes announcements. But the Buckmaster/Alpöge announcement was not a Navier–Stokes announcement.
NYU Courant’s official writeup says Buckmaster and Alpöge "announced the construction of solutions to the three-dimensional incompressible Euler equations" and describes it as "a significant step towards the resolution of the Millennium problem for 3D Navier-Stokes"—i.e., related to Navier–Stokes, but not itself a Navier–Stokes result.
OpenAI’s own official Navier–Stokes page says that when it contacted them, it learned that Buckmaster and Alpöge "had produced a resolution of the forced Euler problem" and further clarifies: "In the Euler case, Alpöge and Buckmaster proved a result with external forcing".
So while both announcements discussed fluid-equation blowup results and both mentioned Lean, only OpenAI announced a Navier–Stokes result. Referring to Buckmaster/Alpöge’s announcement as one of "their Navier-Stokes announcements" is inaccurate.
