The post says that "nobody actually likes and is advocating for the six month pause proposal." But there were clear, public advocates for exactly that proposal.

The strongest direct contradiction is the Future of Life Institute's open letter, published on March 22, 2023, which states: "We call on all AI labs to immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4." That is explicit advocacy for a six-month pause.

The same page also reports 31,810 signatures, showing that support for the proposal was not limited to a single organization.

A second FLI page published on September 21, 2023—before this LessWrong post—again describes the letter as "calling for a six month pause on giant AI experiments" and says it was "signed by more than 30,000 experts, researchers, industry figures and other leaders." That confirms there were many people publicly backing the proposal around the time this post was written.

So while the author may mean that the proposal lacked broad establishment support or that many pause advocates preferred other policies, the literal claim that nobody was advocating it is contradicted by the publicly documented open letter and its signatories.
