So far in 2026, Germany has registered 3,345 asylum applications
The 3,345 figure was for first-time asylum applications registered in September 2026 up to September 25, not for all of 2026. Official BAMF data show Germany had already received far more applications earlier in the year.
Full reasoning
This appears to confuse a September 2026 monthly figure with the year-to-date 2026 total.
- A September 27, 2026 report in WELT says that by September 25, 2026, 3,345 first-time asylum applications had been registered in Germany, citing the Federal Interior Ministry. In other words, 3,345 refers to September only, not to all of 2026.
- Official data from Germany’s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) show that by the end of May 2026 alone, Germany had already recorded 34,925 first-time asylum applications and 50,293 total asylum applications (first and repeat applications).
So the post’s wording is incorrect: Germany had not registered only 3,345 asylum applications “so far in 2026.” That number was a late-September monthly count, while the 2026 year-to-date total was already many times higher months earlier.
