Claim
Evelyn Grace Hartley (14)
Correction
Hartley was 15, not 14, when she disappeared in October 1953.
Full reasoning
This age is contradicted by official law-enforcement materials.
- A Wisconsin unsolved-homicides booklet lists “EVELYN HARTLEY (15-Years-Old)” for the October 24, 1953 disappearance.
- An FBI file about the case says, in a November 1953 broadcast summary, “She would have been sixteen yesterday.” Since the broadcast was dated after November 21, 1953, that places Hartley’s birth in November 1937 and means she was 15 when she vanished on October 24, 1953.
So the article’s parenthetical age “(14)” is off by one year.
