Wirecutter’s air-purifier guide predates 2017. Archived Wirecutter/Sweethome pages show they were reviewing air purifiers by 2014, and the Coway AP-1512HH was already their top pick then.

This is incorrect on the date.
Wirecutter’s own current guide says the original Coway Mighty “was our pick from 2014 to 2026,” not since 2017. An archived 2014/2015 version of the guide from The Sweethome (the site that later became part of Wirecutter) also names the Coway AP-1512HH Mighty as “The Best Air Purifier,” with the article dated October 22, 2014. So the Coway may well have been a long-running top pick, but Wirecutter did not first review purifiers in 2017.
The linked 2017 archive is an update of an already-existing guide, not the first review.
