Grupo Bancolombia’s own corporate history says Bancolombia was founded in 1998 through the merger of BIC and Banco de Colombia. Its investor-relations FAQ repeats the same point: the 1998 merger of Banco de Colombia and Banco Industrial Colombiano created Bancolombia. Because the company did not yet exist in 1988–1997, nobody could have been CEO of Bancolombia during those years. If José Narces Gaviria held a banking leadership role in that period, it would have been at one of Bancolombia’s predecessor institutions, not at Bancolombia itself.
