This is out of date. In June–July 2026, Dreher wrote that he had moved back to the U.S., specifically to Birmingham, Alabama, after four years in Hungary.

Recent first-person accounts from Dreher contradict this. In a July 2, 2026 essay for The Free Press, the dek and article text say he had spent four years in Hungary and had returned to the American South. In a June 11, 2026 piece for The Spectator, Dreher wrote that he had moved back to America, specifically Birmingham, Alabama, from Budapest. Those are direct, current statements from Dreher himself, so the article's present-tense claim that he is still living in Hungary is no longer accurate.

In that post he explained that he had been unable to blog while working at the John Templeton Foundation and that he was joining TAC after that hiatus. TAC's March 25, 2023 appreciation article also says, "For twelve years, Rod Dreher’s blog was an indispensable voice at The American Conservative." A 12-year TAC blog ending in March 2023 points to a 2011 start, not 2008. So the article's 2008 date is incorrect.
