The article places Clement V "in residence at Avignon" in 1308, but standard reference works place his move to Avignon in 1309.
- The Catholic Encyclopedia entry on Pope Clement V states that "for some time (1305-1309), Pope Clement resided at different places in France (Bordeaux, Poitiers, Toulouse), but finally took up his residence at Avignon." That directly contradicts the claim that he was already based in Avignon in 1308.
- Larousse's history of Avignon likewise says the city became the new papal capital when Clement V settled there in 1309.
So while Clement V was already pope in 1308, describing him as already "in residence at Avignon" that year is incorrect by about a year.
