Antipater's execution in 4 BC for plotting to poison his father left Herod II as first in line.
This reverses the order of events. Josephus says Herod had already removed Herod II from the succession before Antipater was executed.

In Antiquities 17, once Mariamne II was found to have known of the poison plot, Herod "divorced her, and blotted her son out of his testament." That means Herod II was already excluded from the line of succession at that stage. Secondary reference works summarize the succession the same way: after the plot was uncovered, Herod changed the succession away from Herod II, first naming Antipas and then, in the final will, Archelaus as principal heir. So Antipater's execution did not leave Herod II first in line.
