Our main ancient source for the shields incident is Philo of Alexandria, who says Pilate "dedicated some gilt shields in the palace of Herod, in the holy city." Secondary reference works summarizing Philo likewise state that Pilate hung the shields in Herod's palace in Jerusalem.

So the problem is not that the shields incident never happened; it is that this article places it in the Antonia palace/fortress rather than Herod's palace.

This sentence attributes the role in Journey to Bethlehem to Herod Antipas, but the film's character is Antipater.

The movie's official cast page lists Joel Smallbone as Antipater, while Antonio Banderas plays Herod. A contemporary review likewise describes the film as centering partly on Herod's conflicted son, Antipater, and says Herod commands Antipater to track down the prophesied child.

So the film is not portraying Herod Antipas as Herod's semi-loyal son in the Nativity story; it is portraying Antipater, a different son of Herod the Great.
