- This confuses two different people. The earliest complete Urdu Qur’an translation is credited to Shah Abdul Qadir Dehlavi, not the 20th-century scholar Abdul Qadir Raipuri.
- The article’s own country figures do not add up to 100 million native speakers. Official census figures put Urdu mother-tongue speakers at about 50.8 million in India and 22.25 million in Pakistan, or roughly 73 million combined.
- This number is off by a factor of ten. The 2011 Census of India recorded about 50.8 million Urdu mother-tongue speakers, not 5.08 million.
- This overstates Urdu’s status in West Bengal. Under West Bengal law, Urdu is used officially only in districts, subdivisions, blocks, or municipalities where Urdu speakers exceed 10% of the population.
